Let’s collaborate!

Hello.

If you landed on this page because you saw one of the stickers up in the windows at 9 North Bondgate, let me introduce myself. I’m Lauren, a knitter, spinner, weaver and British wool enthusiast. I recently bought this building with the intent of turning part of it into a wool studio/niche yarn shop.

That said, the building offers way more space than I need for my project. Instead of leaving much of it empty, I’d like to find a few other creative people to help turn it into something exciting - even extraordinary.

What exactly do I have in mind?

Honestly, I’m not entirely sure. Maybe something like Designers Makers 21 in Norfolk? Or maybe something like Running with Scissors in Portland, Maine? Or maybe something like the DC Writers’ Salon in Washington DC? These are just a few creative spaces I’m familiar with; what we make in Bishop Auckland will be unique to this place and the people involved. The point is, there are templates to riff on, and I’m open to hearing other ideas. I’d be particularly delighted, for instance, to connect with others who share my interest in the recently formed Northern England Fibreshed…maybe we could develop some sort of regionally-sourced textiles centre…?

If you’re curious about what the building could become and interested in possibly getting involved, I’d love to hear from you. You can reach me at makerspace[at]pinfeather.co.uk.
